August Jackson (he/him) is a leader in competitive intelligence and growth strategy. He specializes in focusing on customer needs, applying technology, and intentionally analyzing data to drive business advantage. He is the Founder and Chief Growth Strategist of Compete to Grow, where he harnesses the power of market intelligence and strategic insights to help small and medium businesses compete, win, and grow. August is also the co-founder of The Decision Collaborative, a hub of expertise and best practices that propel decision-making and critical decision inputs.
With over 25 years of experience, August has held senior roles in competitive strategy across industries. As Vice President of Market Intelligence and Competitive Strategy at Deltek, he guided strategic decisions for an enterprise software leader. Before Deltek, he spent six years at Ernst & Young, advising executives on digital transformation and technology's role in reshaping professional services. August's career also includes a decade in the telecommunications industry, with leadership roles at British Telecom, AT&T, and Verizon, and he has consulted with government agencies on applying commercial intelligence techniques to public sector challenges.
A recognized authority in emerging technologies and competitive strategy, August is a former president and Fellow with the Council of Competitive Intelligence Fellows and a former chair of the Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP). He's a sought-after speaker, writer, and workshop facilitator known for advancing practices in scenario planning, social network analysis, and the application of AI in intelligence. He also launched the first-ever podcast dedicated to competitive intelligence.
August holds a BA in International Affairs from George Washington University and an MBA from the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business.
